When faced with a new painting project, one of the first decisions is “What Color”? Does this stage fill you with excitement….or fear about making the “wrong” choice? First, understand that it’s just paint! You can always change your mind and repaint. Next, take a minute to consider the following.
Furniture Style

Some styles, such as mid-century modern, may be associated with certain color palettes. Here I opted for Dixie Belle Gravel Road, Driftwood and In the Navy. Check out my style quiz “What’s Your Design Personality?” to discover color palettes associated with popular styles such as Palm Beach Chic, English Country, Boho Glam, Parisian Chic and Hollywood Regency.
Destination and Use
Are you looking to coordinate with the colors in an existing room or add a pop of color to a neutral palette? My client thought she wanted a pop of color but when she saw the piece in her home decided she would prefer something more neutral. This is a great example of “It’s just paint” and how a color can be changed. From Plum Crazy to a blended finish of Gravel Road, Caviar and French Linen

To Keep or to Sell?
When I need to sell a piece, I know I can count on pieces painted in Drop Cloth, Fluff, Cotton or Driftwood to appeal to a broader market and move quickly. For tips on painting white be sure to check out my blog “How to Paint White Furniture”

If you’re keeping something for yourself, listen to your heart and have fun! You can be sure if I’m keeping a piece, there will be some Moonshine Metallics, gilding wax and stencils!
